Slay the Spire 2 Card Tier List 2026: Best Cards Per Archetype & Deck Building Principles

2026-06-26·Tips & Tricks

My first 50 runs, I took a card reward after every fight. I died to Act 2 elites every time because my deck was 40 cards of random synergyless garbage. The most important skill in Slay the Spire 2 is pressing 'Skip' on card rewards.

Deck building principles (more important than any card ranking)

Rule 1: The skip button is your best card. You should skip 40-50% of card rewards. A card that doesn't improve your deck makes it worse — every card you add dilutes your best cards. If a card isn't better than the average card in your deck, skip it.

Rule 2: Build for the next threat, not the final boss. Act 1: pick frontloaded damage (cards that deal 10+ damage for 1 energy). Gremlin Nob kills you on turn 3 if you can't kill it on turn 4. Act 2: pick AoE and block. Slavers and Gremlin Leader demand multi-target. Act 3: pick scaling. You need to kill the boss before it outscales you.

Rule 3: Your deck needs: damage (kill elites and bosses), block (survive), scaling (win Act 3+), and card draw (play your good cards more often). If you're missing any of these, prioritize it over everything else.

Rule 4: 25-30 cards is the sweet spot. Below 20: you cycle too fast, statuses and curses end up in your hand every turn. Above 35: you never draw your win condition. Exceptions: Silent discard decks (30-35 cards, discarding mitigates bloat), Defect power decks (20-25 cards, all powers).

Rule 5: Remove Strike before Defend. Strikes are the worst cards in your deck. Defends keep you alive. Remove Strikes at every shop. First removal: 75 gold (always buy). Second removal: 100 gold (buy unless you need a key relic). Third removal: 125 gold (situational).

Universal S-Tier cards (pick these on ANY character)

Apotheosis (2-cost colorless — upgrade ALL cards in your deck for the rest of combat. This card is better than most boss relics), Master of Strategy (0-cost colorless — draw 4 cards, 0 energy, best draw card in the game), Panacea (0-cost colorless — gain 1 Artifact. Counters Hex, Vulnerable, Frail, and the Heart's debuff turn), Panic Button (0-cost colorless — gain 30 block, gain 2 Vulnerable. 30 block for 0 energy is insane — the Vulnerable is worth it).

Attack card tier list (universal)

S: Immolate (AoE 28 damage for 2 energy — wins Act 1 and 2 by itself), Bludgeon (32 damage for 3 energy — 32 damage is a dead floor 1 elite), Glass Knife (8x2 damage for 1 energy — 16 damage for 1 energy, loses 2 damage per use, still incredible).

A: Hemokinesis (15 damage for 1 energy, lose 3 HP — HP efficient damage), Carnage (20 damage for 2 energy, ethereal — perfect Act 1 pick), Dash (10 damage + 10 block for 2 energy — Block+Dmg in one card = efficient).

B: Riddle with Holes (3x6 damage for 2 energy — good with Strength), Streamline (20 damage for 2 energy, cost reduces by 1 each use — becomes 1 energy after 2 plays), Follow-Up (11 damage for 1 energy, free if you played an attack — 'free' damage is high value).

Skill card tier list (universal)

S: Adrenaline (gain 1 energy, draw 2 cards — 0 cost, energy positive, draws cards — perfect card), Vault (skip enemy turn), Seek (pull any 2 cards from draw pile — find your win condition), Offering (draw 5, lose 6 HP — HP for cards good).

A: Impervious (30 block for 2 energy, ethereal — 1-cost per 15 block is insane tempo), Leg Sweep (11 block + 2 Weak for 2 energy — Weak is -25% damage for 2 turns), Glacier (best defensive Defect card), Flame Barrier (16 block + 6 retaliatory damage for 2 energy — birds and multi-hit enemies kill themselves on you).

B: Leap (9 block for 1 energy — boring but effective), Survivor (8 block, discard 1 — discard is upside for Silent).

Power card tier list: Echo Form (S+ best power), Demon Form (+2 Strength per turn, 3 energy — S if you have energy relic, A without), Noxious Fumes (S for Silent, B for everyone else), Defragment (S for Defect, C for others).

Cards to NEVER take: Clash, Setup, Berserk, Searing Blow (upgrade it 10+ times to make it good — you'd rather have 10 upgrades on other cards), Metallicize (3 block per turn for 1 energy — 3 block per turn doesn't block anything), Pressure Points (8 damage per Mark — Mark is its own archetype with zero support cards).

Pathing strategy: Act 1: path through 3 hallway fights → campfire (upgrade damage) → elite → campfire (rest/upgrade) → chest → boss. 3 hallway fights gives you cards; don't take more fights than necessary. Act 2: avoid elites if possible (Act 2 elites are the hardest fights in the game relative to your power level), path through ? events instead. Act 3: path through elites (you should be strong enough now).
